Information

A traditional chili and hotdog recipe that was translated from my father’s interpretation of his grandmother’s recipe. Its contents leading to a hearty chili that contains hotdogs. Although, it has been shown in the past that modifications must be made to accommodate incorrect pot selection.

This is a single pot dish that requires a bit of time, but overall, minimal preparation in comparison.

Serving Size: 10

Source

A family recipe, though it is pretty typical.

Ingredients

Main:

  • 2 pounds: Ground beef
  • 60 ounces: Tomato sauce
  • 46.2 ounces: Tomato soup
  • 60 ounces: Kidney beans
  • 1 pound: Hot dogs
  • 3: Onions, medium sized, diced.
  • 4: Green bell peppers, diced
  • 1/2 cups: Chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon: White pepper
  • 1 tablespoon: Salt

Ingredient Considerations:

  • For thicker chili, use more tomato sauce and less tomato soup.

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat set to high, brown the ground beef.
  2. After the meat is browned, stir in onions. Then, after the onions are thoroughly mixed, mix in chili powder, white pepper, and salt.
  3. Once all components within the pot are thoroughly mixed, add the tomato sauce and the tomato soup.
  4. Bring pot to a bubble, adjusting the pot heat appropriately, then add bell peppers and kidney beans. Lower the heat to a simmer and stir thoroughly.
  5. When all components of the chili are mixed, mix in hotdogs until they are distributed more or less evenly throughout the chili.
  6. Add the bay leaves, spaced evenly, on the surface of the chili. Do not stir.
  7. Adjust the pot heat until the chili simmers, on the lower end of simmering. Cover chili and simmer for an extended period (suggested time ranges between 45 minutes to 1 hour).
