Information

There really isn’t a known name for this style of brewing coffee. It seems to be a variation on Turkish coffee. But, it is a how a very specific Croatian makes their coffee.

This recipe was obtained from Krešimir Baričević.

Ingredients

Main:

  • 1 cup: Water, boiled
  • 2 teaspoons: Coffee powder
  • 1 tablespoons: Milk
    Whiteners (Optional):
  • 1 teaspoon: Sugar

Ingredient Considerations:

  • None

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a kettle or equivalent.
  2. Add the coffee powder and (optional) sugar into a cezve. Then add 1 cup of boiling water into the cezve, briefly stir mixture until the coffee powder is in suspension.
  3. Re-boil the coffee mixture in the cezve until it lightly foams.
  4. Pour the mixture into a standard coffee mug. Add milk into the coffee mug and briefly stir.

Instruction Considerations:

  • Before drinking, the coffee can be set aside to cool down and have the coffee grounds stratify and settle. This provides for a “cleaner” coffee beverage.
  • A black version may also be made; omit the milk and sugar.
